Japan's trade deficit worsens on imports increase

Japan's January trade balance deficit ha come more inflated than expected, with the account standing at -¥1629.4B vs. Dec deficit of ¥641.5B.

The worsening balance came due to a significant increase in imports, up 7.3% vs 1.9% last, and 1.6% expected. Exports improved to 6.4% vs -5.8% last, and +5.6% expected.

Looking into the trade details, Europe was the main laggard, -4.5% exports Yoy, while exports to the US increased by 10.9%. Surprisingly, exports to China also went up by +3% despite the disputed islands row.
