Fed's Lockhart doesn't rule out a hike in rates at next Fed meeting or later
Following are the key headlines, via Reuters, from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta President Dennis P. Lockhart’s interview with CNBC:
- Says underlying information on US economic growth more encouraging than headline GDP number
- Still need to see how Brexit plays out medium term
- Says he doesn't rule out rate hike at next Federal Reserve meeting or later
- Says wants to see US economy "tell" fed it is okay to raise interest rates
- Would like to see fiscal measures taken in next administration to help economic growth
- He doesn't think Federal Reserve has reached limits of monetary policy but options more limited with rates near zero
- Asset valuations at the moment particularly deserve watching because they are relatively high
